Kathy – Melbourne

“37 year old, part time cyclist / mostly pedstrian, living inner city, who’s not a fan of tourist traps

Why do you ride?

It’s a no-brainer – cycling is cheap, easy, good for me and the planet.

Best thing about cycling?

Sense of freedom

What improvements would you like to see for cyclists?

Increased government funded cycling infrastructure – wide designated bike lanes separating bikes and cars; better bike parking and storage at train stations, schools and tram stops; bike racks on trams and buses (if LA can do it why can’t we?); mandatory car driver education and training about sharing roads with bikes; government incentive scheme to trade in cars for bikes; free bike share program throughout Melbourne.

Fondest cycling memory?

My first ‘non hand me down’ bike for my 9th or 10th birthday – instant freedom in the suburbs

Cycling tip?

Don’t compete with cars or guys in lycra.

3 things you’d love the world to know about you?

Best thing I ever did was to give away my car, buy a bike and start riding.
